PatnaPatna: The City of Glorious Past

Patna, the capital of Bihar, has been revered deeply in Indian mythological texts. The religious aura, traditional culture and enthralling rituals practised in Patna distinguish it with its neighbouring cities. Over the past decades, the aspect of Patna Tourism has evolved in a phenomenal manner. The city is a perfect holiday mix of history and culture. Every chapter of its past has nicknamed it with unique identities like Kusumpur, Pushapur, Pataliputra and Azimabad. The city came into standing in the early years of the 5th century when Ajatasatru, the second king of the Maurya Dynasty moved the capital of the Magadha Empire to the then called Pataliputra. Over the next 1000 years, the city grew in regard as one of the most world-class cities of the India. It had an important role in the expansion plans of the various empires that ruled over India like Mauryan, Mughal or British.

 

There are several Hindu holy places in Patna like Patan Devi Temple, Lord Hanuman Temple, Sainath Temple in Parsa and many more. Patna is also an important pilgrims for Sikhs. Takht Shri Patna Sahib in Patna City is a Gurdwara built in remembrance of the of the birth place of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of Sikhs. Apart from these places, travellers should also try the lip-smacking cuisines of Patna like Litti-Chokha, Khaja, Puchka and Chaat.
