Holiday Destination in Srinagar

SrinagarSrinagar: The Crown of Kashmir

Nestled amidst the wild peaks of Karakoram, Zanskar and Pir Panjal Ranges, Srinagar is the summer capital city of Kashmir. It is the first place in country where one can find floating post office. So, now you can imagine the best features of Srinagar Tourism. Eulogised for its scenic splendour and majestic views, this earthly paradise has witnessed the rise and fall of many kingdoms. Legend has it that the great Mauryan king Ashoka established the old city of Srinagar and named it Puranadhisthan. With the hold of Ashoka’s rule, Buddhism outspread in the valley. After him, the Kushana Emperor Kanishka strengthened the spread of Buddhism. The modern city of Srinagar was built upon the remnants of the capital cities of several kings, including Pravarasen, Lalitaditya, Jayapida and Avantivarman. Srinagar became the hot seat of the Dogras when Maharaja Gulab Singh became the ruler of Jammu & Kashmir.

The most prominent attraction of Srinagar is the Dal Lake. Next to the Dal Lake is the beautifully laid out Nishat Bagh in Srinagar, made by Asaf Khan, the brother of Empress Nur Jahan in 1633 AD. The garden has terraced layers with water streams flowing down the centre. Shalimar Bagh is an elaborated form of this garden representing the lavishness of the Mughals. The garden is also divided into four terraces and has a water channel running down its centre. On the topmost terrace is the pavilion reserved for the royal visitors. Pari Mahal, Chashmashahi and Hari Parbat are some other sightseeing options here. A perfect holiday destination in Srinagar, both for family and for couples, Srinagar is like a treasure tower of nature.
