Lakshadweep

LakshadweepLakshadweep: The Coral Necklace in Arabian Sea

Elegantly beaded in the expansive blues of Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep or Laccadives is like an astonishing coral necklace jewelled with 36 islands. Praised for its huge coral vegetation, it is the smallest union territory located 350 km off the Malabar Coast. The enthralling shores of this archipelago shimmer in the sun giving a majestic look to the ambiance. The history of Lakshadweep Tourism suggests that the island found its worth on the map only with the arrival of Portuguese sailors. After the fall of Portuguese rulers, the power was vested in the hands of King of Chirakkal. Succeeding with the East India Company’s rule, Lakshadweep finally was declared a union territory in 1956.

Lakshadweep Tourism attractions include beaches that offer various engaging water sport activities like scuba-diving and wind-surfing.  Lakshadweep Travel Guide is also blessed with various other sight-seeing options like the Lighthouse at Minicoy. It dates back to 1885 and is one amongst the oldest in Lakshadweep. One can get a spectacular bird's eye view from this 300 foot lighthouse and the view is truly breath-taking. Another place to visit in Lakshadweep is the Marine Aquarium and Museum at Kavaratti, which is an informative museum set up in 1983. It houses many marine artefacts, unique species of fish and other varieties of marine life. Kavaratti Island also has picturesque lagoons and few majestic mosques. Other destinations like Minicoy, Kalpeni, Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat can also be visited while on Lakshadweep Tour.
