Tribes of IndiaThe nature of the plural society in India is the co-existence of various populations varying in levels of financial and intellectual development. For ages now, a huge tribal population has been residing in the country. These tribes have been recognized formally and named as 'Scheduled Tribes' by the Constitution of the country. Tribes in Eastern India namely Lambadas are known for their hand-embroidered costume studded with mirrors. Tribal communities in Central India like Santhals and Bastar stand out with their extra-ordinary traditional dance form. Todas, the tribals in Southern India are known for their pastoral lifestyle and hand-woven clothes.
